Myriad Research Confidentiality and Privacy Statement

Myriad Research is a market and social research consultancy that provides specialist advice to business, government and industry. We collect information for the purposes of market and social research. We manage information carefully and use strict confidentiality and privacy protocols to protect the information we collect.

The Privacy Act require us to take reasonable steps to protect the security of personal information. We must respect the confidentiality of personal information and the privacy of individuals.

Confidentiality means keeping information safe and only using it for the reasons we collect it. Privacy means protecting information that could potentially identify you. If information is personally identifiable, we will put additional processes in place to protect your identity.

We abide by the following legal and industry standards:

  • The Research Society Code of Professional Behaviour
  • Privacy Act 1988 and Australian Privacy Principles (APPs)
  • ISO 20252: 2019 Clause 4.3 Information Security
Your personal information

We collect and hold information about you that includes your contact information such as name, year of birth, suburb, postcode, email and phone number. We may also collect information about your household or family composition, and products that you may have used, and any paid market research activities you have participated in.

Sometimes we may collect your bank account details so we can pay you a reward or incentive payments. We delete this information from our records after we have paid you.

How we use your personal information

We will only use and share your personal information for the main reason for which it is collected, for reasonable secondary purposes which are directly related to the main reason, or other circumstances allowed by the Privacy Act.

In general, we may use and disclose your personal information for the following purposes:

  • to extend invitations to participate in paid market research
  • for quality control or validation of research participants
  • to provide our research clients with profiling information about participants recruited to their study
  • to monitor participation rates
  • to contact past participants to conduct further, follow-up research
  • to comply with our legal obligations and
  • to help us manage and enhance our services.

Apart from the above, we will not disclose your personal information without your consent unless we are legally required to.

When we disclose your personal information

Your information will not be used for non-research purposes without your consent, unless required or authorised by law. We will not disclose your identity to anyone not directly involved with the research project, or to end clients requesting the research.

With your permission, we may disclose your personal information to:

  • other companies or individuals who are working with us or on our behalf
  • anyone else to whom you authorise us to disclose it, usually our client.
Sensitive information

We do not normally collect sensitive information about you such as information about your health, racial background, religious or political beliefs or date of birth. If we do collect sensitive information, we will obtain your consent first, and will only collect it if it is reasonably necessary for a specific project.

Sensitive information will be used and disclosed only for the purpose for which it was provided or a directly related secondary purpose, unless you give your consent or it is required by law.

Protecting personal information

We have a range of technical, administrative and physical security measures that protect your personal information from loss or misuse. When we no longer require your personal we will take reasonable steps to de-identify or destroy it.

The Myriad Research website

When visiting our website, the site server logs the visit for statistical and administrative purposes. Myriad Research’s website does not use persistent cookies. This means that when you close your browser, the session cookie is destroyed and no personal or identifying information is kept.

Children, young people and other vulnerable groups

We always obtain the consent of a parent or responsible adult before collecting information from children and young people aged under 18 years. We take special care when collecting information from people in vulnerable circumstances in the community. We encourage staff to obtain Working With Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration. Some projects require that our staff must have a WWVP registration.
